Golden Charter is now authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (‘the FCA’) as a provider of funeral plans.
On 29 July 2022, the FCA took on regulation of the funeral planning market, ensuring customers are treated fairly and bringing them valuable new protections. This includes access to the Financial Ombudsman Scheme and the Financial Services Compensation Scheme for Golden Charter customers.
Our CEO Suzanne Grahame commented:
Regulation is a milestone moment for the funeral planning industry, bringing reassurance for plan holders and their families. If one thing is clear about operating in a regulated system, it is that the customer always comes first. That is as true today as it has always been for independent funeral directors, and we look forward to continuing to work with them to give our customers the comfort that their loved ones won’t need to endure the added stress of planning a funeral during one of life’s most difficult times.
We pride ourselves on being a secure and transparent provider. The payments our customers make towards their funeral plans are placed in the independently managed Golden Charter Trust*. The Trust produces fully audited annual accounts and has sufficient assets to comfortably meet its future liabilities, providing reassurance that it will be able to meet future demand to fund funerals as agreed.
